20th April 2007: Walney Airshow 2007 has been cancelled. The air show committee say a vital Civil Aviation Authority document could not be completed before the required date. More information can be found here.

29th January 2007: A firm operating helicopters have expressed interest in working from the airfield. Details are few at present but it is thought the company is involved with offshore helicopter operations. A new hangar may also be erected for aircraft storage.

15th June 2006: A date of 28th July 2007 has been announced for next year's Walney Airshow. The organisers are hoping to make the air show a free event but this will depend on the amount of sponsorship pledged by November 2006.

18th March 2006: The following NOTAM gives details of a flight trial involving the Nimrod MR4 aircraft. The trial is due to take place At Walney Airfield sometime between the 20th and 25th March 2006.

NIMROD MRA4 ACFT FLIGHT TRIAL. THE TRIAL ACFT WILL MAKE SEVERAL  RUNS THROUGH N5407 W00316 (WALNEY ISLAND AIRFIELD), NOMINALLY AT  500FT. THE TRIAL ACFT WILL REMAIN CLEAR OF REGULATED OR CONTROLLED  AIRSPACE UNLESS UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE APPROPRIATE ATC AGENCY.  SUBJECT TO APPROVAL FROM THE DISTRESS AND DIVERSION CELL, PERSONAL  LOCATOR BEACONS WILL BE SWITCHED ON AND TRANSMITTING DURING SOME  PERIODS OF THE TRIAL.TIMINGS AND TRAFFIC INFORMATION ARE AVAILABLE  FROM WALNEY INFORMATION ON 123.200MHZ OR CONTACT 01772 858114 OR  01229 471407.

1st February 2006: The Walney Airfield stage of Exercise Herrick Eagle, due to take place on the 31st Jan/01st Feb, was cut short due to low cloud throughout Cumbria. Four RAF Chinook aircraft and an Army Lynx helicopter arrived at the airfield on Tuesday 31st Jan in preparation for the exercise. Up to six RAF Hercules were due to make an appearance, bringing in soldiers to spend the night on the airfield with the intention of launching a mock attack on an army training range in Yorkshire, the following day.
